2019 OBTC AWARD WINNER - BEST PROGRAM FOR YOUTH
Hello! I am Jenny Blackwood - lead facilitator & curriculum creator of The ZenTotz Program. I am a highly qualified & certified K-8 teacher in the State of California. Additionally, I have completed extensive training from The Mindful Schools Organization.
I thrived as a student in elementary school! And so, I selected "Elementary Education" as my college major with zero hesitation. I graduated with honors in 2006, and was hired as a 1st grade classroom teacher months later.
I successfully instructed large groups of students for 13 school years. Throughout it all, I enthusiastically taught about gratitude, self-love, compassion, and forgiveness. I observed the positively wonderful effects these subjects had on my classroom community. And as my teaching career continued, I began understand my ultimate life's purpose: to develop and create a one-of-a-kind mindfulness, meditation, and yoga program for children.
In 2017, I decided to dedicate my whole self to bring this practice of mindfulness to youth. I am deeply concerned with my students' well being, and I want to ensure they will grow and thrive beyond their academic successes.
We believe there is a twinkling light inside of each human being. The practice of mindfulness encourages our light to glow! We believe it is crucial to lead children through mindfulness practices. When we teach children to be resilient and compassionate, they will grow up to shine their lights with greater consciousness and love for all other beings.
Our program presents the building blocks of mindfulness. We aim to liberate our students from negative emotions including depression, anxiety, addictions, and excessive stress which may develop during adulthood.
It is our primary goal to teach children the act of resilience - an extremely effective skill used for coping with daily struggles and situations. With practice, this crucial life skill can be honed, nurtured, and applied during adulthood.
Mindfulness is the act of paying attention to something consciously, which empowers us to understand our inner experience and how we interact with the world around us.
After experiencing our program, students will have an understanding of mindfulness practices, which will reduce their risk of angst and personal suffering in the future. Through mindfulness practices, our participants will be able to fend off negative thoughts and behaviors, and to build self-confidence. These experiences will encourage them to treat others and themselves with respect and appreciation.
